Summer is upon us and as usual, we have a whole slew of upcoming concerts, festivals, and blockbuster movies to keep us entertained during the sunnier months. And now, with the existence of Huntington Park, Columbus once again has a large outdoor venue where concerts can be held and the outdoor weather can still be enjoyed (or cursed, depending on your mood, seat, and the amount of rain puddling in your shoes). Of course, the return of Rock on the Range at Crew Stadium is always a huge event for the die-hard rockers out there and this year is sure to be amazing with so many great bands on the lineup, including the return of Limp Bizkit and our very own hometown boys, Noise Auction.

In addition to all the possibilities to choose from this summer, there is also - drum roll, please - the relaunch of Fliprag Magazine, which you hold in your hands. As you may have noticed in previous issues, the magazine was originally geared toward local and regional unsigned artists. Half of the magazine spotlighted them and the other half featured articles that they would be interested in reading. Unfortunately, this is not Nashville, New York, or LA and there simply isn't enough support of unsigned artists in this area to justify having a publication dedicated solely to that purpose. The idea is grand and noble, but the target audience was simply too limited. So here we are again, attempting to reach out to a whole new, wider audience.

While Fliprag Magazine will continue to offer some content spotlighting local artists (as well as a section for the artists themselves; see the Backstage Pass article), the remainder of the magazine will focus on anything and everything entertainment-related in our city. Yes, we have maintained the two-sided nature of the publication (pause to flip over the magazine if you're not sure what I'm referring to yet). However, the two sides will now feature locally-relevant entertainment in Columbus in one half and nationally-relevant entertainment in Columbus in the other. In addition, we will always strive to offer you previews of events, concerts and shows coming to our city, not reviews of things that already happened. After all, why do you care about the concert that blew through town last month that you no longer have the opportunity to attend?

I still urge every one of you to make a conscious effort to see a local live show from time to time, whether it's music, drama, comedy, or whatever floats your boat. There is certainly no shortage of local bands to see or open mic comedy nights to go to. Most of them work hard to be the best they can and most of them get paid little to nothing. But as an artist, there is a reward to be had from having people there and hopefully, people that seemed to enjoy the performance.

We always welcome your feedback. Check out one of the concerts or events we previewed and write us to tell us how it was. Check out the items in our Mixed Reviews section and let us know your thoughts. As long as it's entertainment-related, we are listening. And if you send us something that's thought out and somewhat entertaining, we may print it in the next issue!

Send any and all feedback, comments, gripes, corrections or questions to mailbag@fliprag.com.
